Why I Chose a Private-Pay Model

Choosing not to work with insurance was an intentional decision. When insurance isn't involved, there's no diagnosis required to begin, no limit on how we work together, and no third party influencing your care. What happens in our sessions stays between us. You get therapy that's built entirely around what you actually need — not what an insurance company will approve.

Things people
often ask

Every couple is different, and there's no predetermined timeline. Most clients begin with weekly sessions, which tends to build the most momentum early on. From there, the pace is always guided by your needs and progress — not a set number of sessions or a fixed schedule. Some couples do focused, shorter-term work. Others find they want to continue longer. We'll talk about this regularly as we go.
No — I am a private-pay practice and do not bill insurance directly. Many clients appreciate this because it means no diagnosis in your records, complete privacy, and full flexibility in how we work together.
Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT) is one of the most researched approaches in the field. Rather than focusing on communication skills, EFCT works with the emotional patterns underneath your conflict — the deeper needs for connection, safety, and being truly seen by your partner. About 70–75% of couples move from distress to recovery, and results hold for years. It's not about being nicer. It's about understanding why you keep getting stuck — and finding a new way to reach each other.
Sessions are held via a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform through the client portal. You'll need a private space and a reliable internet connection. Many couples find that virtual therapy actually makes showing up easier — no commute, no scheduling gymnastics, just the session itself.
I ask for 24 hours notice for cancellations. Late cancellations and no-shows may be charged the full session fee. I understand that life happens — if something comes up, just let me know as early as possible and we'll work it out.
That's completely normal. The free consultation exists precisely for this — to answer your questions, give you a feel for how I work, and let you decide if this feels right before committing to anything. There's no pressure and no obligation. If it doesn't feel like a fit, I'll help you find someone who might be a better match.
